Accomplishments

Debbie is proud to have sponsored legislation that is important to our state.  From jobs to budgeting to more accountability and transparency, here are few things she would like you to know about:  
In 2005, Debbie sponsored the bill to provide funding for Nevada’s 2-1-1 line.  By dialing 2-1-1 our citizens can find out about resources from childcare to medical needs to tutoring and energy assistance.  Most recently, we saw the impact of 2-1-1 when our citizens were directed to call 2-1-1 for information about the Reno Air Races disaster.  The services are also available on line at Nevada 211.

Sponsor of the "School Works" legislation that gives school districts more access to bond funding for rehabilitation of older schools that is no additional cost to taxpayers.   This bill immediately frees up $75 million of construction funding for Washoe County School District and is expected to be used in other school districts in the future.  Better school buildings and almost 1,000 construction jobs!

Sponsor of important wildlife legislation – AB322 in the 2011 session strengthens the conservation position on the Wildlife Commission and requires implementation of the Dream Tag.  The Dream Tag will allow sports men and women to buy a raffle ticket for a big game tag.  Similar to legislation in other states, it will generate millions of dollars over time toward habitat restoration while giving hunters another chance for a coveted big game tag.  Watch for Dream Tag news in 2012!

Sponsor of AB248 from the 2011 session.  This bill requires that the budget developed by the administration is based on priorities and tracked by performance.  It will also result in a more reader/user friendly budget document used during legislative sessions.  This legislation provides for more public and stakeholder input and more accountability through performance-based budgeting.  

Sponsor of AB376 in the 2011 session.  The bill requires transparency and accountability for the use of "Star Bonds" on public/private projects.  Tax incentives are an important tool for the redevelopment of our urban areas and this bill gives the taxpayer more information regarding how Star Bonds are used, which will allow policy makers to have better data for further use of this funding mechanism.
